Why You Feel So Alive on Vacation (And How to Keep That Feeling at Home)
“How do I feel like I’m on vacation when I’m at home?” Have you ever asked yourself that question? Maybe it was a different form of the question: Living in Mexico for the past eight years has shown me something about American culture I couldn’t see when I was in it. Like a fish doesn’t know it’s in water, I didn’t realize how the constant pressure to achieve & do more was affecting my health and happiness. From my quiet beach town, I watch Americans & Canadians alike arrive for vacation. Their success markers are clear: the designer luggage, the scheduled activities, the need to make every moment “count.” Even on vacation, they’re measuring, achieving, optimizing. What Success Looks Like Here But Mexico measures success differently. Here, a good day isn’t about what you accomplish. It’s about how present you are. How deeply you connect. How much joy you find Read More . . .

Done with Dieting Episode #122: When We Judge Food & Health
Through an exploration of why we judge ourselves, others, and the world around us, this podcast dives deep into how our judgments can be both natural and harmful. As we uncover the real power behind our judgments, we must ask ourselves: are we really in control of our judgments, or do we hold the power to be in control of ourselves? I was counseling a client about their food habits and judgments when things suddenly took an unexpected turn. Uncovering a pattern that extended far beyond food and deep into our beliefs and behaviors, I set out on a journey of self-exploration and awareness to help others liberate themselves from the chains of judgment and find their true selves. What I found was both surprising and inspiring – a truth that changed the way I saw the world. If you’re feeling frustrated and hopeless about not being able to accept Read More . . .

Done with Dieting Episode #48: Starting a Side-Gig with Sindy Warren
What to do when you have a great idea, but that’s it? We hear all the time how Microsoft and Apple were started in a garage. All successful companies start with an idea, and then seemingly overnight the idea grows into a successful business. There’s no doubt that becoming your own boss takes a lot of work. And that the road to success is paved with stories of defeat, disappointment, and failure – which is why I loved talking to Sindy Warren about how she helps budding entrepreneurs start businesses – whether they’re just part-time hustles or ideas that allow women to retire their partners. Whether we’re talking about business or weight loss, there are SO MANY parallels when it comes to the mental game and achieving success in these two different areas. Sindy is such a great coach & person to learn from if you’re someone who has an Read More . . .
Done with Dieting Episode #40: Stages of Awareness
You can’t change what you don’t acknowledge. One of the widely accepted suggestions for changing habits is to do them slowly. Don’t make radical changes to what you’re currently doing – lean into – it so that you don’t create too much discomfort, get overwhelmed & quit. But far too often, we think we’re further along than we actually are, and in the process inadvertently bite off more than we can chew. Whenever we want to change a bad habit into a better one – what that requires is a certain level of paying attention – especially if the old habit is one that we do automatically. When we’re changing our behaviors, it’s easier for our brains to fall into the unconsciousness that automatically happens when we follow the habit loop. Changing our behavior requires paying attention and focus. So it’s super common if we default to old patterns that Read More . . .

Done with Dieting Episode #26: Goal Setting
They say that a goal without a plan is a wish. Sometimes, we think about accomplishing something, and although the idea of having that thing is appealing, we don’t want to do the work to make it happen. But when something IS important, something that we really really want, a little bit of forethought can really help to aid in success. In this episode, you’ll learn how to set goals, and then follow through using the obstacles and barriers that perceive to make us successful. Done with Dieting Episode #13: HAES with Deb Lesko
I love the Maya Angelou quote “I did then what I knew how to do. Now that I know better, I do better.” As a society, we’ve been taught that being overweight equals disease, being unhealthy, lazy, stupid, and a whole host of other negative qualities that have nothing to do with our size. So, it makes perfect sense that in our quest to be seen as ‘enough,’ we would try to conform to traditional standards of beauty – which for many of us are just simply unattainable. In this episode of the Done with Dieting Podcast, I’ve invited my guest, Deb Lesko, to introduce us to the Health at Every Size (HAES) movement, because I believe that the movement is misunderstood. Tune in to learn what the movement is all about, and how adopting some of the movement’s beliefs can help you feel better about yourself. About Debbie Lesko Read More . . .
Done with Dieting Episode #11: Creating CALM & FOCUS with Ryan Lanier
There’s no doubt that if we have an organized space, and systems in place to stay organized, that it will free up time and energy, and support the healthy habits that we want to create or maintain. We THINK that it takes a ton of time and work to get everything under control – when we look at our surroundings, it seems completely overwhelming! But today’s guest, Ryan Lanier from Organizing4Good shows us how spending time getting organized ahead of time will actually save time when we don’t have time to spare. Done with Dieting Episode #9: Trust Bank
Are we entitled to lose weight? So many health & fitness gurus tell us that if we want to lose weight, all we need to do is eat less and move more. So, it makes sense that when we do those things – eat salads instead of pizza, or broccoli instead of brownies – and then stand on the scale, and the scale doesn’t reflect what we think it should, that we’d get discouraged. And of course, when we feel discouraged, we’re more likely to give up on whatever plan it is that we’re on. So many of us resentful towards our bodies – that they aren’t holding up to their end of the deal. That our bodies are different. Bad in some way because they don’t look like they should – look like what other people’s bodies look like – or do what they’re ‘supposed to’. What if your Read More . . .
Done with Dieting Episode #6: Do we need to Move More and Eat Less?
There’s no doubt that calories in vs calories out is the foundation of weight maintenance and weight loss. Yet, anyone who’s been on a diet and drastically cut calories, logged every morsel that’s passed her lips, knows the frustration and truth of being confronted with the math not working out when standing on the scale and not seeing the number that she had hoped for. So what’s that about? How is it that we can live in a calorie deficit and not lose weight? Truth is that although calories are in fact the way that we gain and lose weight, BUT there are many things happening within our bodies that are so complex – that we really don’t know why two people can eat and do the same things, and while one person will lose weight, and another won’t. In this episode of the Done with Dieting Podcast, we’re going Read More . . .

4 Surefire Strategies to Not Gain Weight During the Holidays
We are now full blown into the holiday season. OMG! I can’t count the number of Black Friday sales emails I’ve gotten! And it’s interesting. Isn’t it? Because every year, I say, ‘Not me. Nope. I’m not going to overeat, or drink too much alcohol. I’ll get enough sleep, and keep to my workout schedule. I’m not going to succumb to the holiday season weight gain.’ And yet, every year, I find my kitchen teeming with holiday goodies (which is totally weird since I don’t really bake), rich winter foods, and wine. Lots of wine. And when food is around and available to you, you eat it. It’s just a fact. I know I’m not alone in this. I’ve heard from so many of you that, like me, you’ve had this same mindset in previous years too – the holidays aren’t going to get me. And yet they do. So, Read More . . .
What did I learn from a crazy kettlebell challenge?
Just last week I challenged myself to do an ungodly number of kettlebell swings for 8 straight days. Why on earth would I want to do that, and what would I learn? I don’t even think I was thinking about what I would learn. I was only wondering, ‘Can I do that?’ But I learned a LOT! I learned about my strength, how my body works, and also how a small shift in mindset can make a HUGE difference in my motivation. Why It all started innocently enough, I guess. I was getting up from the kitchen table quickly. I wasn’t watching where I was moving, and I kicked the kitchen table with my little toe. OUCH! But I brushed it off – how many times have you jammed your toe into something without consequence? Not that I’m totally clumsy, but it happens, and it hurts, and I forget Read More . . .
