Much fear goes along with creating a blog for me. 1) I need to think up witty titles for each of my posts. 2) I must be witty, at least most of the time within the body of my post, 3) There's no spellcheck or grammar check!
All of that aside, my goal in writing this blog is to explain about my quest to be an Ambassador of Wellness. It's a title that Gary gave me several months ago, that I enjoy much more than the title given to me several years ago of "Princess". So what does an Ambassador of Wellness DO? Well, I guess I am trying to spread the word of health, fitness, and a balanced life through lifestyle choices that we make on a daily basis.
It's easy to get caught up in the minutia of everyday life & blow off those things that are truly important in our lives (like our health) just because they aren't urgent & in our faces like the telephone, or our children (or in my case, my dog, Lucy) asking for something. So, how do we step back, and re-prioritize? Because I can assure you that no one has wished that they did more errands or worked longer hours on their death-bed.
In The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People, Stephen Covey explains in Habit 2 to Begin with the End in Mind. That means that in order to live the life we want, think about your funeral. Think about how you want to leave this earth. What do you want people to say about you? What legacy do you want to leave behind? Once you have the answers to those questions, prioritizing your life & daily activities becomes easier.
You still have to answer the phone, and do errands, but FIRST plan your life with activities that reflect your values. Then, fill in the free time with those things that we HAVE to do. I want to live life to the fullest. Through nutrition & exercise, hopefully, my body will be able to keep up.
When I stand before God at the end of my life, I would hope that I would not have a single bit of talent left, and could say, "I used everything you gave me." – Erma Bombek
