Clarify Your Direction
The first step in accomplishing any goal is to know where you are, and to know where you’re going.
This is the beginning. We’ll create a detailed vision of exactly how you want your health to be, what habits you want to be doing on a regular basis, how you’ll feel, and what type of person you desire to be.
Strategize Your Actions
Once we have a vision of how you want your life to be: how you’ll feel when you wake up in the morning, how you’ll feel when you go to bed, what you’ll see when you look at your plate of food before and after meals, and how that food will make you feel, how you will feel when you look in the mirror, and how you would like to interact with those around you. Once we have a clear idea of how your life will look, then we can create steps – a strategy – to get you there.
Upgrade Your Skills
Not everyone is going to need this step, but some folks might. What skills do you need to cultivate to be successful?
- Learn how to cook (knife skills)
- Appropriate exercises & proper form
- How to make good choices on a restaurant menu
- How to make good choices at the grocery store

Optimize Your Environment
By far, the biggest complaint I get from my clients when we start coaching is that they don’t have any discipline. They feel like they are completely out of control. Discipline is a skill that we can learn and cultivate.
One of the best ways to overcome discipline is through controlling our environment. In this step, we will strip away all of the environmental cues that work against what you desire. When we optimize our environments, we set ourselves up for success.
- For someone who wants to quit smoking, that could mean breaking and throwing away ash-trays, lighters, cigarettes, and other smoking related objects.
- For someone who wants to be more consistent in their exercise habit, that could mean buying good shoes, exercise clothes, a membership to a gym or workout equipment, or setting your environment up so that it’s easy to exercise.
- For someone who desires to eat healthier, it could be performing a pantry make-over.
- Cleaning up our bedroom space is imperative to having a good night’s sleep
I will work with you to ensure that your environment is supporting your goals – not fighting them.
Master Your Psychology
The way that we think about food, exercise, our health, and our bodies dramatically impacts how well we take care of ourselves. If we equate exercise with punishment (3rd grade gym class anyone?) we won’t want to do it. Same thing for eating our vegetables.
Most of the time we don’t even realize that we have these destructive thoughts!
