Just Show Up

Happy New Year! As with every change in the calendar, folks start to look at the blank canvas of a new year, and get inspired with ideas of what this year can look like. What new opportunities will present itself? WIll I have more wealth at the end? Will my business grow? What steps can I take to make my life better? Is my personal health part of that equation? Will I be moving the needle (in a positive way) for my personal health?

There are lots of ways to improve your personal health. Yes, you can go to the gym. Yes, you can eat less junk. You could try incorporating some better sleep habits into your routine, or maybe practice deep breathing when you feel stressed out.I know those last two ideas are not what typically come to mind when we think about healthy habits, but stress management and sleep management are just as important to your health as your activity level and diet. Example: When I don’t get enough sleep, I’m a little bit more on edge and snappish. With my eating, I gravitate towards sugary-starchy foods (which aren’t the best choices for my weight goals). When I don’t get enough sleep, I don’t feel like exercising because, well, I haven’t slept well, I feel lethargic, and would rather sit on the couch eating potato chips out of the bag.

It all ties together.

But see, here’s the thing. When we exercise, we sleep better. When we exercise, we make better nutritional choices. We manage our stress better because we got rid of all that negative mental energy when we move. Again, it all ties together.

So, how do you make this year THE YEAR? Consistency is the key.

Just show up.

Showing up is MORE than half the battle. I promise you. If you show up. If you consistently go to classes, or if you are consistent with your personal training appointments, you will see results. You will sleep better. You will manage your stress better. And (if you don’t have the mindset of, “I just worked out, so I can eat this entire cake!” But rather, “I don’t want to ruin the work I just put in my eating those chips.”) you will probably see some results in the mirror.

There are no guarantees, but if you show up, I promise! Your trainer. Your Group X Instructor. Your classmates. They will all be there to support you and help you along the way. And me too.
